BIM has revolutionized the way infrastructure projects are planned, designed, and managed. However, the dependency on specific CAD software platforms often poses interoperability challenges and limitations for stakeholders. To address these issues, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) has embraced a CAD agnostic approach for their Digital Delivery Program, leveraging the benefits of BIM while ensuring advancement and compatibility among various software.
This presentation will feature PTC's Digital Delivery Program, which encompasses the entire lifecycle of infrastructure projects, delving into program initiation, implementation, adoption, and ongoing investigations. It will focus on the benefits and challenges with a CAD agnostic approach, featuring insights and lessons learned from PTC’s pilot projects.
The presentation will provide an overview of the Commission’s first pilot projects highlighting a bridge replacement project, mainline reprofiling project, emergency access ramps and stormwater site project, and a facilities project.

The integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) promises to redefine our approach to asset management in the realm of infrastructure. BIM provides comprehensive 3D models and data, meticulously optimized for the design, construction, and operations of structures. Meanwhile, ArcGIS stands as a renowned GIS platform, celebrated for its abilities in spatial data management and analysis. However, the true challenge lies in harnessing the combined advantages of these systems by achieving seamless interoperability between the geospatial world and the dynamic capabilities of BIM. In this compelling presentation, we will showcase the transformative potential of GeoBIM—a groundbreaking solution that leverages data from existing ArcGIS maps and scenes, integrating it with project design content from BIM models. Through a series of use cases specifically tailored to highway models and infrastructure sites, demonstrate the power of a reinforced integration between GIS and BIM systems. Moreover, this presentation will go beyond integration, introducing a host of additional features in data management. These advanced capabilities enable project teams to effortlessly access and analyze vital information, empowering them to make informed decisions and fostering seamless collaboration throughout the lifecycle of their assets.
